Evaluation of Narrative Video Production.

Evaluation

In terms of the final product, I am pleased with the technical look of the video, however In future I need to ensure that when starting I scene I always re set white balance to give the frame the right colour. This is evident as in some shots there is a difference in colour and contrast and I believe that I need to be more aware of the technical aspects of film making. I do like the visual style which I chose as opposed to rapid cuts or jump cuts, I chose for a seamless continuity between scenes and I used a shoulder rig for a tecnhically challenging long tracking shot which I felt was good considering we did not have a dolly track.

My reflective process is that I chose the song by Graham Woolley with images deeply rooted in mind, however reflected that vision into the moving image was a challenge, this included listening to the song to understand where the natural breaks were and trying to get the cutting write in the editing room.

I do believe my video has a particular message and the narrative style outlines the message, I hope that the audiences who view the video can understand the message that I have tried to convey as the track is very powerful and tells a very emotive story.

During this production I had several locations, multiple characters and this was all during different days which was technically challenging. The song is complex and features a diverse story which I tried to convey as accurately as possible, despite some mistakes whilst filming, I went back and re-shot several scenes to ensure that it was correct.

I have learnt a lot from working on this, being able to manage my time to film and edit, I also have learnt the art of colour grading between each shot and the importance of setting white balance between shot. In terms of the editing style in future I would like to use jump cutting as a technique but within this video I tended to not use alot of cutting which I feel represent the characters journey in a fluid way.

Overall I am pleased that I have produced a piece of work on my own, even if it is not as good as everyone elses.
