INT. A PARTY - NIGHT
A party is in full swing.
We see through the eyes of a young woman; as she walks
through a large group of people to find her friends.
We find JAMES first; who smiles at us. Holding JAMES’ hand
is his girlfriend, ALICE; who throws us a forced; almost
sarcastic smile.

We battle our way through a few more strangers before
finding KATE. KATE smiles warmly; giving us a hug before
handing over a drink.
Then we are watching the young woman and KATE from afar;
talking and enjoying the party.
Kate hovers beside the young woman, puppy like, as the young
woman engages with the rest of the party.

EXT. BEACH - LATER
A full moon’s light dances along the calm inviting sea.
The reflection partially illuminates a young woman’s corpse;
laid face down; motionless; grains of sand on her cheek.
Quietly, the receding sea line gently laps her feet.

EXT. BEACH - THE FOLLOWING MORNING
The early sun’s glare washes over the young woman; still
unmoved but left alone by the now departed sea line.
Along the shore; two detectives pace in unison; scanning for
washed away evidence, a familiar rhythm driving them.
Detective COLE, a gentle but driven man, searches
methodically. In contrast; Detective SILVA; an abrupt and
distant woman; seems less interested in the crime scene.
COLE stops, staring out to sea; deep in thought. Finding the
DECEASED’S phone; COLE joins SILVA as they proceed to
discuss the case.
COLE hands over the phone. On the screen wallpaper are four
young friends. We recognise them as JAMES, ALICE, KATE and
the DECEASED.
SILVA nods approvingly as COLE points to the suspects in the
picture.
2.

Approaching the body, SILVA departs as COLE crouches;
craning to see the young woman’s face.

INT. INTERROGATION BENCH - LATER
A three section split screen; the three suspects; each one
sat on a bench, anxiously waiting.
In the first screen is KATE, who appears shaken and
vulnerable; her eyes darting around fretfully.
In the second is ALICE, who impatiently plays with her hair.
In the third is JAMES, who; reality dawning, leans forward.
Hearing a noise; KATE timidly walks out of view.

INT. POLICE STATION - INTERROGATION ROOM - MOMENTS LATER
Anxiously, KATE looks up in fear.
Menacingly; COLE leans down; placing his hands on the desk;
uncomfortably close to KATE.
KATE begins to tell her version of events.
FLASHBACK TO:

INT. THE PARTY - THE PREVIOUS NIGHT
We are back the party from the opening scene.
We recognise the young girl; at this point still very much
alive; hopelessly attempting to spurn JAMES’ advances.
Nearby; KATE and ALICE are talking.
Finally she has enough. Pushing him violently; she storms
out of the room.
Returning to the bar defeated; JAMES orders two drinks from
the BARMAN. JAMES nods to a woman sat at the bar; whom in
the present day is still a MISSING SUSPECT.
Downing one drink; JAMES takes the second; going after the
DECEASED. The BARMAN and the MISSING SUSPECT exchange looks.

3.

EXT. THE BEACH - CONTINUOUS
THE DECEASED walks along the path; swaying a little.
JAMES follows her out; grabbing her arm. There is a
struggle. She slaps him hard in the face.
Surprised he recoils a little; before trying again.
Again she slaps him. Drunken and enraged, James strangles
her. Her limp body falls to the ground.
BACK TO PRESENT:

INT. POLICE STATION - INTERROGATION ROOM
COLE stands back digesting the information. He gestures to
KATE indicating that she is free to go.
Unburdened but exhausted; and dragging her feet, she leaves.

INT. INTERROGATION BENCH - CONTINUOUS
Split screen again; one empty screen and two suspects left.
the remaining two still anxiously waiting.
KATE shuffles into her screen; sitting down.
With a delayed reaction; JAMES looks up; before walking out
 of our view.

INT. POLICE STATION - INTERROGATION ROOM - MOMENTS LATER
JAMES is shown in.
Detective COLE pulls out a seat, instructing him to sit.
The detective then sits opposite him; his elbows resting on
his knees; a predator ready to strike. Grief stricken; JAMES
stares vacantly out of the window in anguish.
As the detective begins to question him, JAMES recounts his
version of events.
FLASHBACK TO:

4.

INT. THE PARTY - THE PREVIOUS NIGHT
A repeat of the exchange from the previous flashback. In
this version however, JAMES and THE DECEASED are laughing
and joking together.
He asks her if she wants another drink before heading for
the bar. Watching him walk away; she sends JAMES a text.
From afar, JAMES’ girlfriend ALICE has seen everything.
Next to her KATE instinctively tries to calm ALICE down.
At the bar with two drinks ordered; JAMES receives the text.
The message reads: "GONE TO GET SOME AIR"
Smiling to himself, JAMES downs a drink. Taking the other,
JAMES nods to THE MISSING SUSPECT as he turns to head back.
Returning; he discovers THE DECEASED arguing with ALICE. As
THE DECEASED flees in tears; ALICE follows her.
JAMES turns to the BARMAN; who shruggs sympathetically. THE
MISSING SUSPECT mirrors the response.
EXT. THE BEACH - CONTINUOUS
THE DECEASED runs out; stumbling a little as she slows
down.
ALICE catches her up; grabbing her violently. The two push
and pull until THE DECEASED falls to the ground.
As THE DECEASED tries to pick herself up, ALICE lunges.
Slamming THE DECEASED’S head on the ground; ALICE
subsequently climbs over; strangling her.
THE DECEASED tries to fight back; but to no avail.
BACK TO PRESENT:
INT. POLICE STATION - INTERROGATION ROOM

himself he turns to see COLE stood at the door.
The detective opens the door dismissively. Taking his Que;
JAMES leaves while he still can.

INT. POLICE STATION - INTERROGATION ROOM - MOMENTS LATER
Detective COLE keeps the door held open; waiting for ALICE
to be shown in; then closing it behind her.
A little less confidently now; she takes a seat. As COLE
questions her; ALICE begins to tell her version of events.

FLASHBACK TO:
INT. THE PARTY - THE PREVIOUS NIGHT
At first this seems much like JAME’S version of events.
KATE and ALICE watch from afar.
JAMES and THE DECEASED seem to be flirting. THE DECEASED
glances over her shoulder; noticing the MISSING SUSPECT
looking strangely at her.
As before; JAMES goes to the bar; ordering two drinks and
talking briefly to the BARMAN and THE MISSING SUSPECT.
This time; as he turns back he notices THE DECEASED flirting
with another man.
Angry; JAMES downs one of the drinks. Without looking back
at the BARMAN he then slams the glass down on the bar.
Storming over; JAMES proceeds to argue with his rival.
Crying; THE DECEASED pulls away; withdrawing into the crowd.
Pushing through; JAMES follows her as she heads outside.
EXT. THE BEACH - CONTINUOUS
JAMES follows THE DECEASED out and along the beach.
As before he grabs her arm. She tries to resit; but dizzy;

A look of shocked realization appears on DECEASED’S face.
THE DECEASED begins to shout at them as an argument ensues.
Now a little uncomfortable; the BARMAN finishes his work
quickly before he is noticed; going back inside.

While he is turned THE MISSING SUSPECT switches the drinks.
Taking her handbag and drink; the MISSING SUSPECT leaves. As
she lifts the handbag a small container drops onto the bar.
Cleaning the bar; and without her seeing; the BARMAN picks

The BARMAN quickly puts the container away.
